How to Write a CV for Jobs in Pakistan — Trakora career guide

Your CV has one job: help a busy reader decide whether your evidence fits the role. Relevance, clarity and proof matter more than decorative formatting.

Choose the right opening

Put your name, contact details, location and professional link at the top. Follow with a short summary that names your field, strongest evidence and target role. Replace “hardworking” with a capability you can demonstrate.

Write accomplishment bullets

Use action + work + result. “Prepared weekly sales reports in Excel and reduced manual checking time” tells more than “responsible for reports.” Student projects and volunteer work count when you explain your contribution.

Tailor the emphasis

For finance, move reconciliation and analysis higher. For operations, highlight scheduling and process improvements. Keep facts honest while changing the order to match the vacancy.

Remove distractions

Delete copied objectives, unrelated school details, excessive icons, spelling errors and claims you cannot defend. Export a final PDF and check page breaks and links.

Ask someone unfamiliar with your work to describe your profile after a thirty-second scan. If their description is wrong, revise the first half of the page.

Build the CV from the vacancy backwards

Start with the employer’s requirements and place the strongest matching evidence on the first half of the page. For a fresh graduate, that may be education, a relevant project and technical skills; for an experienced applicant, it is usually recent work and measurable outcomes. The government-run National Employment Exchange Tool includes job-seeker and resume functions, while the European Union’s Europass CV guidance is a useful primary reference for clear structure when an international application requests that format.

Replace claims with inspectable evidence

“Good communication skills” is a claim. “Prepared six client briefs and presented findings to a 12-person team” is evidence. For each bullet, identify the action, scale and result. Use numbers only when you can explain their source. Student societies, laboratory work, final-year projects and family-business responsibilities count when described honestly. Remove rating bars for skills; they cannot be interpreted consistently and waste space.

Run a Pakistan-specific document check

Use one spelling of your name across the CV, CNIC, degree and application form. Include city, phone and a professional email, but omit CNIC number, religion, marital status and a full home address unless the official application specifically requires them. A photograph is not necessary for most private and international applications; follow the recruiting body’s instruction for public-sector forms. Export to PDF, use a descriptive filename, test every link and open the file on a phone. Maintain a master CV, but send a focused version whose title, summary and first bullets match the vacancy you are actually applying for.
